To make ball position and width of stance easy to remember divide the set of
clubs into thirds. This would consist of short irons (SW, PW, 9, 8), mid-
irons (5-6-7), long irons and woods (2-3-4, Driver, Three Wood, Five
Wood).
In creating proper width of stance and ball position, the player is allowing
the feet, legs and hips to support the length of arc created by the golf club
and arm swing. Therefore, the ball position and width of stance are in direct
proportion to the length of club and arm swing arc. As the club lengthens,
the stance gets wider; and as the club gets longer, the ball position moves
forward. This is to ensure that the player’s head is behind the golf ball at
impact.
Here is a chart, which will help you find proper width of stance and ball
position.

Width of Stance Ball Position

1,3, 5 Woods Long Irons Inside feet, outside shoulder Forward shoulder

Mid Irons Inside feet, shoulder width Forward cheek

Short Irons Inside feet, inside shoulder Center of chin

Quality ball strikers will be very consistent with their set up and ball
position. Good luck in your quest for good ball striking.
